It all began in London in 1968 when Time Out helped people discover the exciting new urban cultures that had started up all over the capital. Since then, this iconic brand has consistently maintained its status as the go-to source of inspiration for both locals and visitors alike. Find out more about our history here. Time Out Group comprises two highly synergistic business divisions: Time Out Media and Time Out Market. Time Out Media’s digital and physical media proposition comprises websites, social media, print and live events. Across these platforms, Time Out distributes its high-quality content – written and curated by local expert journalists – around the best food, drinks, culture, art, music, theatre, travel and entertainment in 333 cities and 59 countries. The Company is monetising this global reach and its strong traffic from a desirable audience via digital and print advertising as well as e-commerce. Since its launch over 50 years ago, Time Out has become a global brand that advertisers and consumers love and trust. Time Out Market is a food and cultural market leveraging the Time Out brand to bring the best of the city under one roof: its best chefs, drinks and cultural experiences – based on the editorial curation Time Out has always been known for. In 2014, Time Out Lisbon editors turned a historic market hall in the city into Time Out Market, thus creating the world’s first food and cultural market, and the first market experience rooted wholly in editorial curation. A place that previously housed the city’s top vendors now brings together the best of the city under one roof: its best restaurants, bars and cultural experiences, based on the editorial curation Time Out has always been known for. A once neglected building and neighbourhood was turned into a popular destination for both locals and tourists, and hundreds of jobs were created. In 2018, 3.9 million visitors came to the market to explore excellent food from 32 restaurants and kiosks, enjoy drinks from eight bars and cafes, buy from five shops, attend cooking workshops in the Chef’s Academy or events in the Time Out Studio, a 900-capacity entertainment venue. 2018 also saw three of Time Out Market’s chefs receive four Michelin stars in their own local restaurants and in March 2018, Time Out Market Lisbon received an international award recognising this unique place as one of the most visionary concepts in the European food service sector – proof of the high-quality fine food the market makes affordable and accessible for all. Since its opening in May 2014, Time Out Market Lisbon has quickly turned into a huge success and is now arguably the most popular attraction in the city, which is no small feat in a place with hundreds of years of history. Time Out Market in London Spitalfields We’ve been working on plans to open a Time Out Market in Spitalfields at 106 Commercial Street - a food and cultural market celebrating and capturing the soul of the city. Everything would be handpicked, tested and tasted by people who spend all day tracking down the best and newest that London has to offer: the Time Out London editorial team. We have now submitted amendments to the application originally submitted in late 2019, along with a listed building application, which responds to the listing of the building in 2020. We see this as a unique opportunity to ensure our plans enhance and work in harmony with the buildings' exceptional and historic features, and use them to help us create a thoughtful, attractive new space. Here’s what we plan for Time Out Market in Spitalfields: 12 eateries, with food from some of the city’s best local, homegrown talent – curated by Time Out editors. The food offer will reflect the unique diversity of the city Cultural experiences which will celebrate local talent and showcase the work of local artists An attractive destination for everyone, making culinary and cultural experiences accessible and welcoming for people of all ages – there will be something for all of the family to enjoy A design that highlights and celebrates the historical aspects of the building, responding to the recent Grade II listing of the building and making previously private and inaccessible internal views accessible to
Time Out, the global media and hospitality brand that helps people explore and experience the soul of the city, has revealed its list of the 16 best city breaks in Europe for 2022. The list features official capitals of culture, lesser-known second cities and the under-the-radar destinations that will host some of the biggest festivals and openings of the year. As vaccination and booster rollouts continue apace worldwide, Time Out believes that in 2022, travellers will rediscover a passion for city breaks, especially with this set to be a year packed with big new cultural openings and many huge festivals returning. Time Out’s network of 16 expert local European editors and writers picked these emerging destinations because of their excellent food, culture, nightlife and community spirit – the things that have always made Europe’s cities such great places to be. In these climate-conscious times, the list also features only places that are easy to get to by train and bus. Caroline McGinn, Time Out’s Global Editor-in-Chief, says: “For the past 18 months, travellers have largely explored closer to home, with trips to the countryside especially popular, but in 2022 we’re predicting that the city break will make a triumphant return. Where else can you order an espresso, pop into a museum, taste a local liqueur and go out out? Whether you’re looking to hit a blockbuster festival or visit a new museum opening, we hope our list will provide some much-needed travel inspiration this win
